General Information

Statement of Purpose

The Western Slope Cup (WSC) is an initiative launched in the 2021-22 USA Fencing season to promote fencing competitions on the Western Slope and neighboring areas. The WSC is comprised of a series of designated tournaments which award points towards a season championship. WSC events are hosted by member clubs. Any club in good standing in or near the Western Slope of Colorado may join the Western Slope Cup and host designated events.

A season points list has multiple purposes. First, by having a points list that encompasses a season, this drives participation between clubs at these designated tournaments. Second, it encourages season-long engagement among fencers and helps create a long-term narrative. Finally, it prepares fencers for regional and national events, which also keep points lists for youth, cadet, junior, senior, and veteran events.

How it Works

At least four tournaments each season are designated as Western Slope Cups. Any participating club may ask to host a WSC event. WSCs will attempt to be awarded to as many unique clubs as possible before having a club host more than one WSC.

Each Western Slope Cup should have Senior Open events as well as Youth 12 (Y12) events. Currently the Western Slope Cup only tracks foil and epee and a hosting club may choose to hold events in either or both. Clubs may host additional events, such as Veteran or Junior, and may hold saber events, but these will not be counted as points events.

Competitors earn points based on their placement. Please refer to the table below for how points are awarded. Competitors may use their best three results to calculate their season points total. The top three in each weapon and age category will receive plaques at the end of the season. The top female athlete in each weapon and age category will also receive a plaque. Finally, the top veteran in the senior category for each weapon will earn a plaque. Competitors must fence in a minimum of two Western Slope Cups to be eligible for a championship plaque.

Season winners are tracked on this website as well.

Example

Gerek Meinhart participates in four Western Slope Cups. He places 1, 3, 5, and 6. Using his three best finishes, he has 100 + 85 +70 = 255 points.
Lee Keifer also fences four Western Slope Cups. She places 1, 1, 6, and 7. Using her best three results, she has 100 + 100 + 69.5 = 269.5 points.
